Emerald shines on turf

EMERALD’S Agrade bowlers played a top game, restricting Clyde’s bats to 195 in its first game on turf at Cranbourne Racecourse on Saturday.
The Bombers got off to a good start picking up a wicket in the third over and then bowled well until tea, restricting Clyde to 4/113, with Quenten Lucas picking up the crucial wickets.
After tea Emerald picked up the pace and took regular wickets while restricting the runs.
Tight bowling saw Clyde all out for 195 in the 75th over.
Key contributions came from Tim Sproule 4/35 from 20 overs and Rod Smith 3/42.
Emerald then faced one over without losing a wicket.

B GRADE

Emerald faced Cranbourne Meadows, lost the toss and was sent into field.
Opening with Clinton Marsh and Adam Failla, Emerald took three quick wickets with Marsh and Failla bowling well.
The Bombers then picked up regular wickets through Donald Alenson.
Clinton Marsh and the Alenson Brothers provided a spark in the field, teaming with ’keeper Greg Hamilton to get two spectacular run outs.
The Bombers bowled Cranbourne out for 98 with Donald Alenson picking up 5/34.
Emerald then went into bat and struggled from the onset to slump to a dismal 7/30.
Donald Alenson was unluckily out late in the day after batting well and with key batsmen Jarred Gillespie at the crease there is hope for the Bombers.

D GRADE

Emerald won the toss and batted, getting off to a bad start losing two quick wickets.
It soon fought back to be 5/116 at tea, with Peter Hamilton (30) and Aaron Cameron (21) the main contributors.
After tea the Bombers lost quick wickets and despite a cameo from Mark Hamilton, only made a mere 136.
Emerald was then forced to bowl and got off to a good start with captain Andrew Rolfs taking two early wickets.
The Bombers remained sharp and picked up another three wickets through Rolfs and Cameron and managed to have Clyde reeling at 5/37 at stumps still needing another 98 for victory.

E GRADE

Emerald batted and made a solid start with Mick Vanleuwen making 15.
It then stuttered slightly to be 5/85 at tea. Chris Alenson and son Andrew put on a good partnership and made 29 and 22 respectively.
The Bombers batted well after tea and managed to post a score of 137.
Kade Ely and Ricky Causer put on a good partnership of 30 towards the end of the innings.
Emerald bowled and opened with Callum Benoiton and Byron Sidwell and both bowled tight with Benoiton finally coming through with the break.
The second last over of the day saw Tom Baldock come into the attack and take two wickets in three balls.
Lang Lang was 3/59 at stumps.

F GRADE

Emerald travelled to KilcundaBass and batted, posting the small total of 69.
Jim Burke was the main contributor making 36.
Emerald then bowled without an early breakthrough and KilcundaBass was 5/123 at stumps.
Robbie Stewart and Danny Mazlo were the main wicket takers.

UNDER 17 BLACK

Emerald was sent into the field and bowled well, taking regular wickets eventually bowling Clyde out for 98.
Great bowling from Cailen Parker 4/10 and Euan Thoms 3/22 provided the wickets for Emerald.

UNDER 15 BLACK

Emerald batted and made a good total of 146.
Andrew Alenson and Tom Baldock were top scorers with 30 and 25 respectively.

UNDER 15 RED

Emerald bowled and after 40 over had Pakenham UpperToomuc 6/147. Wicket takers were M. Sullivan three and Jake Rosen two.
