Sergeant a man on a mission

By Jim Mynard
NARRE Warren Police Sergeant Peter Beames will work with the United Nations Mission on Timor Leste.
Sgt Beames has been seconded to the Australian Federal Police and expects to be away for about 60 weeks.
Sgt Beames is a popular member of the Berwick RSL and a vicepresident of the group.
He said he applied to go with the team and would be pleased to be part of the mission. He said about 90 police were selected and were to leave on Friday.
“We expect to be placed in Dili at first,” he said.
Sgt Beames said he didn’t see the job having any more danger than normal police work in this area.
“But this is a chance to contribute to the people of East Timor in a positive way,” he said.
Sgt Beames has been in the police services for 30 years and he has spent the past four years working at Narre Warren.
He has served in the permanent Australian navy and is a member of the Berwick RSL.
Friends last Friday gave him a send off at the RSL clubrooms.
