FOR Michelle Scholes, being in the change rooms on grand final day at the Melbourne Cricket Ground this Saturday will just be another day’s work.
The qualified physiotherapist from Physioworks in Pakenham and Cranbourne will play a crucial part in the Dandenong Stingrays’ preparation for the TAC Cup grand final against the Gippsland Power at the ‘G.
The 25yearold was recently given two awards from the Australian Football League (AFL) for playing an important part in the careers of two drafted Stingrays players.
Every year, each AFL draftee is asked to nominate one person who has most assisted them on their path to success, and now Brisbane Lions Luke Forsyth and Jayden Attard nominated Scholes for the part she played in their developing careers.
Scholes has worked at the Stingrays for the past five years, and has developed a passion for the club.
“I love it. I support Melbourne in the AFL, but most of my football attention is on the Stingrays now,” she said.
Scholes studied for four years at Melbourne University, successfully completing her Bachelor of Physiotherapy with a year of honours.
After always dreaming of working with elite footballers, Scholes said she worked with the Stingrays in every facet of the game.
“I’m there for training, games, and the players can also visit my clinic during the week,” she said.
In her spare time, Scholes instructs pilates and fitball classes.
“They are great for posture and general wellbeing,” she said. “Pilates is great for people recovering from back injuries.”
Scholes is looking forward to attending the MCG on grand final day, saying that’s about as big as it gets.
“I really can’t wait. I’ve been watching the boys all season,” she said.
And a tip for the TAC Cup grand final?
“The Stingrays will win by a couple I goals, I think,” Scholes said.
The game will televised live on Foxtel’s Fox Footy channel from 10am on Saturday.
