Wood’s top knock

A TOP knock of 44 Stableford points gave Andrew Wood the score of the day and the Cgrade win at Drouin Golf Club on Saturday.
Cgrade runner up was Greg Smyth, 41, with Alan Fielden and Mick Hanley on 38.
The fine weather attracted 101 players with scoring muchimproved on previous weeks.
In B grade, Peter Daniles (18) was a comfortable winner with 39 from runnerup Charlie Hardie 36 and Peter Phillips 36.
Goran Danilov (13) blitzed A grade with 42 points and runnerup was Rod Hammond 40. Pat McDonald, Doug Clark and Tom Carroll all had 37.
Balls went down to 36 on a countback and the CCR was 72.
Nearest to pins 14th: Mark Wooton, 17th: Alan Fielden, 19th: Laurie Pyle and 23rd (pro pin): Clint Hickford.

WEDNESDAY COMPETITION

Conditions were also fine for the midweek Stableford competition and 88 players returned cards.
The everconsistent Shane Dwyer (4) parred the course on his way to 40 points and the Agrade trophy.
Runner up was Roger East on 38 and John White also had 38.
It was a close affair in B grade, with three players all on 36.
The countback declared Rod Clark (19) the winner from Gordon Williams and Tom Flowers.
In C grade, Greg Patterson (27) had a win with an excellent 37 points from runnerup Phil Edwards 36 and Rex Bastin 34.
Balls went down to 34 and the CCR was 73.
Nearest to pins – second: Shane Dwyer, fifth (pro pin): Tom Carroll, 23rd: Roger East.

NINEHOLE COMPETITIONS

Good fields gathered again for the two competitions during the week.

MONDAY

This saw a threeway tie at the top between Lester Smethurst, Mick Devries and Max Johnson all on 20 points (two golf balls each).

THURSDAY

Con Norris was the runaway winner of the men’s section with 21 points from Bruce Horskins 17.
In the ladies, Lorraine Burke was best with 15 from Kay Grieve 14 and Lorna Hoskins 15.
This Saturday will be the Gippsland Bulk Spreaders August monthly medal.

LADIES

After a chilly start last Tuesday, the day warmed up and 33 contested a stroke event with eight to qualifying for matchplay and the captain’s trophy.
The CCR was 76 and Mary Clark sponsored this event.
Agrade winner, with 75 nett, was Irene Morgan. The runnerup on a countback with 80 nett was Maureen Leighton.
Bgrade winner on a countback was Poss Leeson with 80 nett and the runnerup was Glenda Warren.
Nearest the pin on the second was Bernace Miller and no one claimed on the 19th, as well as the propin that will jackpot.
Downtheline balls went to Margaret Purcell 80 nett, Tracie Wright 81 nett, Mary Tymensen, Margaret Mitchell and Betty Johnson all on 82 nett.
The eight to qualify for matchplay are Irene Morgan to play Di Baskett, Tracie Wright to play Mary Tymensen, Poss Leeson to play Mary Clark and Glenda Warren to play Margaret Mitchem.
The winner of the ninehole competition was Joyce Pierrehumbert with 15 points.
Lorraine Burke with 15 points won the Thursday nine hole seniors’ competition.
Runnersup were Kaye Grieve and Lorna Hoskins, both with 14 points.
This week is stableford and next week will be stroke, the monthly medal, putting and play off for the silver spoon.
