
A DROP in numbers for the fat sale on Wednesday last week at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange saw 294 head yarded which was mainly vealers being 74 per cent of the sale.
Quality was back on recent weeks with no standout pens among the sale which was reflected in the top prices and averages with both back on last week.
The top processor vealer this week was back 10 cents, the lack of numbers in the bullock section saw less competition which eased this category.
Heifer quality was planer pulling the top back 27 cents, and steer prices also eased with less competition from restockers this week.
The yard average was 11 cents easier at 303.8 cents.
Ten bullocks topped at 334.2 cents, back 17 cents and averaged 303 cents, back 32 cents, 27 heifers topped at 328.2 cents, back 27 cents, and averaged 254.3 cents, back 33 cents, 37 steers topped at 335.6 cents, back 24 cents, and averaged 302.1 cents, back 18 cents and 217 veal topped at 371.2 cents, back 20 cents, and averaged 316.6 cents, firm.
Reduced numbers and easier demand on Thursday resulted in a yard average of 196.1 cents, back seven cents on last week, as again processors with stock were either absent or window shopping.
Seventeen bulls sold to a top of 303.6 cents and although weight averages were better, bulls finished the day back seven cents on average at 250.4 cents.
A total of 392 cows made to a top of 278.6 cents, back 17 cents, with a larger percentage of light dairy cows yarded.
The average for cows was back nine cents to 192.5 cents, and the yard average was seven cents easier at 196.1 cents.
