Market good for small winter offering

THERE were approximately 240 export and 350 young cattle penned at the Victorian Livestock Exchange representing a decrease of 30 head week-on-week.
There was a full field of buyers present and competing in a dearer market as another domestic processor entered the gallery.
Quality was good for a small winter offering with a good scattering of grain assisted cattle having an impact in most categories.
A larger selection of vealers gained five to 10 cents.
Yearling steers and heifers to the trade lifted 10 cents to 15 cents, feeder cattle gained up to 20 cents for a better selection, grown steers and bullocks improved 11 cents to 16 cents with most drafts between 500kg and 600kg.
Heavy weight vealers suited to butchers sold from 336 cents to 370 cents and yearling trade steers made between 340 cents and 377 cents.
Yearling heifers to the trade sold between 318 cents and 365 cents and feeder steers made from 319 cents to 355 cents with the heifer portion from 318 cents to 344 cents.
Grown steers sold from 320 cents to 377 cents and a handful of bullocks made between 345 cents and 377 cents while a couple of pens of heavy weight Friesian manufacturing steers averaged 272 cents.
