Mixed results for Garfield

GARFIELD Bowls Club’s divisiontwo team lost to Moe in pennant on Saturday 106 to 87 winning only one rink, but had two good wins in division six.
Scores were: Stephen Whyte, Stephen Bassed, Ray Biffin and Tom Cleary lost to S. Hulse 24 to 29.
Jim Oliver, Les Pumphrey, Hank Woulters and Frank Prins lost to R. Bartley 22 to 27.
Garry Payne, Bob Lamport, Shane Oliver and Wayne Gunton lost to J. Wasiukifwkz 12 to 28.
Colin Mills, Stu Robertson, Don Knight and Colin Carmichael defeated T. Cooper 29 to 22.
Both Garfield division 6 teams had a win on Saturday.

DIVISION SIX

Garfield division 62 had a tight win against Longwarry by one shot overall to gain eight valuable points in the ladder race.
Scores were: Bob Hope, Laurence Wright, Bill Charles and Bill Doherty lost to P. Smethurst 15 to 23.
Alex Mentiplay’s team had a good day, winning by nine shots.
Scores were: Alex Mentiplay, Geoff Gaskell, Reg Mattingley and Matthew Smith defeated G Mitchell 31 to 22.
Garfield 63 had a good day, defeating Warragul (5) 53 to 28 to score maximum points.
Scores were: Gordon Beer, Pat Marriott, Barrie Smith and Wes Goodman defeated M Cousins 23 to 18.
Les Shatwell, John Rose, Adrian Helmuth and Fay Carmichael defeated M Porter 30 to 10.

LADIES

Garfield had a good day on Tuesday, winning all three rinks in defeating Yallourn.
Scores were: Rose Shaw, Joan Garvey, Joan Donovan and Margaret Charles defeated A. Birchall 27 to 19.
Eleanor Lee, Judy Prentice, Pat Marriott and Fay Carmichael defeated U. Griggs 30 to 12.
Lyn Oliver, Gordon Beer, Bev Sainsbery and Maureen Lamport defeated C. England 26 to 17.

SATURDAY PENNANT

Saturday ladies pennant saw a loss to Drouin by 12 shots.
Scores were Eleanor Lee, Judy Prentice and Maureen Lamport lost to L. Freeman 11 to 24.
Rose Shaw, Joan Garvey and Margaret Charles defeated D. Hamilton 22 to 21.

CHAMPIONSHIP WINS

Both the men’s and ladies’ championships have been decided with Colin Mills defeating Stephen Whyte in the men’s final in a marathon match that finished at 9.40pm.
Eleanor Lee defeated Judy Prentice in the ladies’ final.
