TOORADIN’S Agrade team defeated Pakenham by 78 runs on the first innings.
Chasing Tooradin’s score of 242, Pakenham had both openers back in the pavilion when the score was 2/22.
Both openers fell to Adam Baumgardner, who had to bowl early when Dave Bethune was injured.
A 52run partnership took place before Sam Clarke dismissed the dangerous David Nagel.
Brenton Adams’ spinners were again effective and he had dismissed the opposition skipper to have Pakenham 4/114.
Wickets continued to fall and eventually Pakenham was dismissed for 164.
Man of the match was youngster Sean Baker.
B GRADE
Tooradin defeated Pakenham by 170 runs on the first innings.
Chasing Tooradin’s score of 9/355, Pakenham’s opening batsmen were solid and had an opening stand of 37.
Tooradin had to work hard to leave Pakenham 2/90 when Rory Alder and Nathan Findlay came into the attack.
The two spinners had great results, Alder finishing with 4/43 and Findlay 3/13.
Ron Eakins bowled well for 1/16, and, interestingly, after 40 overs both teams were 3/131.
Tooradin’s depth showed through in the end and the man of the match award went to Kane Latham.
D GRADE
PUT resumed having already gained first innings points, but Ben Divegerlo took two wickets with the first three balls of the day, and his third ball, together with a clever Brett Jenkin runout, saw PUT slump to 9/125.
From there, PUT rattled on 50 for the last wicket to make 184.
Tooradin needed 98 to make PUT bat again and started poorly being 2/5, before Divegerlo made a hardhitting 24 and Mitch Adderley showed application for a solid 22.
John Dutton made an aggressive 20 but the Gulls, batting one short, were dismissed for a disappointing 103, leaving the Yabbies requiring only 6 runs for a 10wicket outright win.
E GRADE
Tooradin defeated PUT by 64 runs to end the first half of the season on a good note.
Chasing PUT’s score of 164, Tooradin again got away to a good opening stand of 42 before R. Simpson was dismissed for 31.
Youngster Michael Ralph, the other opener, continued to work hard and batted for 49 overs to top score on 59.
Wickets fell, and at 6/112 Ralph was joined by Grant Atwell.
Atwell played a great innings of 51 not out and he and Ralph added a 58run partnership.
James Brown made 10 and showed improvement.
After a good team effort, the man of the match went to Atwell.
