Market prices soft in places

THERE were approximately 210 export and 350 young cattle penned representing a decrease of 140 head week-on-week at Pakenham’s Victorian Livestock Exchange.
The usual buying group was present and operating in a softer market in places.
Quality was limited with a good offering of grain assisted trade cattle while grass finished lines were in short supply.
A handful of vealers suited to butchers sold firm.
Yearling cattle to the trade eased 10 cents to 15 cents per kilogram with one less buyer operating on the better drafts.
Feeder cattle held firm.
The better drafts off grown steers and bullocks eased 10 cents while most sold firm.
Heavy weight vealers suited to butchers sold from 360 cents to 398 cents.
Yearling trade steers made between 353 cents and 377 cents.
Yearling heifers to the trade sold between 323 cents and 360 cents.
Feeder steers made from 325 cents to 377 cents.
Grown steers sold from 334 cents and 358 cents.
Bullocks made 335 cents.
A handful of heavy weight grown heifers sold between 290 cents and 340 cents.
A couple of friesian manufacturing steers reached a top of 311 cents with the crossbreds reaching 345 cents.
The VLE draw for the week commencing Monday 29 August is: 1, Elders; 2, S.E.J.; 3, Everitt, Seeley and Bennetts; 4, Alex Scott and Staff; 5, Landmark; 6, Rodwells; 7, Nathan Gibbon Livestock.
The next store sale is Thursday 25 August at 10am.
