Grass finish improves

THERE were approximately 300 export and 360 young cattle penned representing a decrease of 60 head week-on-week at Pakenham’s Victorian Livestock Exchange.
There was a full field of buyers present and competing in a dearer market.
The quality of the grass finished cattle improved with a very good offering of veal while grain finished lines were in shorter supply.
Heavy weight vealers suited to butchers sold up to 10 cents dearer.
A limited selection of yearling trade steers gained four cents.
Yearling heifers suited to the trade improved eight to nine cents.
Grown steers and bullocks sold mostly three cents dearer for a better selection.
Heavy weight vealers suited to butchers sold from 380 cents to 415 cents.
Yearling trade steers made between 380 cents and 400 cents.
Yearling heifers suited to the trade sold between 345 cents and 392 cents.
Grown steers made mostly from 350 cents to 372 cents after a top of 398 cents for a pen of steers purchased for a domestic supermarket.
Bullocks sold from 350 cents to 368 cents.
A couple of heavy weight grown heifers reached 350 cents.
A limited selection of heavy crossbred manufacturing steers sold up to 345 cents.
