Vealers lift yard

EXTRA numbers in the vealer section last week lifted the yarding number at the Baw Baw Livestock Exchange.
Demand in the vealer section saw strong competition with higher prices remaining over several pens in the top section.
Secondary pens also sold strongly with the lighter numbers and the wet conditions up north holding prices up across all categories.
Again, only a few bullocks were in attendance with three head yarded, heifer numbers were firm with good condition and this forced prices upward.
Steer numbers were back and restockers were under represented therefore prices eased in this area, especially in the secondary pens, with the better pens holding firm.
The week’s yard average rose seven cents to 346.3 cents, 43 heifers made to 387.6 cents, up 17 cents, and averaged 319.6 cents, up eight cents.
Thirty steers made to 380.2 cents, firm, and averaged 320.7 cents, back 35 cents.
A total of 168 veal made to 434.6 cents, up 17 cents, and averaged 366.6 cents, up 18 cents.
This improved demand and prices carried on over to Thursday as 24 bulls yarded topped out at 318.6 cents, up 14 cents on the previous week, and the bull section averaged 291.2 cents, up 25 cents.
Cows also had a good sale with a top of 317.2 cents, up 33 cents to average nine cents better at 243 cents with the yard average of 247 cents, up 12 cents on the previous week.
The draw for 28 and 29 September is: 1, Landmark; 2, Gibbon; 3, Scotts; 4, Elders; 5, S.E.J.
