Exchange numbers up again

YARDING numbers were back again last week for the Baw Baw Livestock Exchange fat sale with 182 head penned.
Very few bullocks were delivered and sold to average demand while the steer and heifer categories did contain extra head which gave buyers some choice and resulted in heifers lifting on average and steers remaining firm.
Vealer numbers were lighter and quality was easier in this area with only a handful topping the 400 cent mark.
The week’s yard average eased 13 cents to 332.2 cents.
Four bullocks made to 335 cents and averaged 282.4 cents, 50 heifers made to 381.2 cents, up 31 cents, and averaged 316.8 cents, up 11 cents.
A total of 32 steers made to 366.2 cents, firm, and averaged 332.5 cents, firm, 94 veal made to 413.2 cents, back 10 cents, and averaged 358.2 cents, back seven cents.
With the long weekend out of the way, vendors delivered a larger number of 528 head on Thursday, 16 bulls sold to a top of 311.2 cents for an average of 271.5 cents, up seven cents on last sale, 504 cows saw firm demand in the better pens, although with the larger numbers across the state this week, overall the market was slightly back, with the top cow selling to 323.2 cents, up 46 cents, and the average was back 11 cents to 222.9 cents, with the yard average nine cents easier at 225.8 cents.
