Market sees selective buying

THERE were approximately 450 export and 680 young cattle penned representing an increase of 330 head week-on-week at the Victorian Livestock Exchange.
There was a full field of buyers present and mostly operating more selectively in a cheaper market.
Quality was quite mixed in the regular offering of local cattle with limited numbers of prime cattle while there was a sizeable and good quality run of pastoral cattle sourced from the north.
There was a larger and better offering of vealers which sold firm.
Yearling cattle to the trade eased five cents to 15 cents per kilogram.
The grown steers and bullocks were mostly between 500kg and 600kg and prices slipped 12 cents to 14 cents for most.
Heavy weight vealers to butchers sold from 366 cents to 405 cents.
Yearling trade steers made between 345 cents and 385 cents.
Yearling heifers to the trade sold between 322 cents and 385 cents.
Grown steers and a sprinkling of bullocks made from 310 cents to 355 cents.
Heavy weight crossbred manufacturing steers sold from 282 cents to 327 cents. Heavy weight grown heifers made between 290 cents and 350 cents.
The VLE draw for the week commencing Monday 24 October is: 1, SEJ; 2, Rodwells; 3, Nathan Gibbon Livestock; 4, Elders; 5, Everitt, Seeley and Bennetts; 6, Alex Scott and Staff; 7, Landmark.
The next store sale is on Thursday 20 October at 10am.
