DESPITE capitulating in the first innings, Merinda Park was able to thwart Upper Beaconsfield’s attempt to gain outright points, batting out the second day on Saturday.
Having reached 0/105 the previous week with openers David Taylor 53 notout and Daniel Brennan 45 notout, skipper Scott Pitcher asked Merinda Park to bat again in the quest for elusive extra points.
However the Cobras were a different side from the one that crumbled for 78 in the first innings and took its task seriously and at tea was 4/95 from 37 overs.
Marcus Gehling made the initial breakthrough and captured 3/30 from 18 overs. Skipper Scott Pitcher bowled another long spell and took 3/69 from 22 overs, while other contributors were Glen Kilburn (1/17 from nine), Andy Haythorpe (1/10 from five) and Dave Ardley (1/4).
The previous week’s hero Luke Pitcher who captured nine wickets was only able to bowl one over, suffering from a side strain.

Devon Meadows batted first and struggled to score freely early in the onedayer.
However this was partly due to the tight bowling of Shawn Hassall and brother Kim.
At the half way mark Devon Meadows had only reached 3/51. However over the last 20 overs it was much brisker, compiling 99 from 20 overs.
Upper Beaconsfield had a chase of 150. Shawn Hassall (3/27), Kim Hassall 1/23, Rob Hansen 1/31 and Chris Reid 1/10 were the wicket takers.
The Maroons attempted to score the runs quickly, however lost wickets along the way and a solid partnership was required to steady the ship.
In the face of tumbling wickets Daniel Williams remained resolute and hammered any short delivery, but it was only when Steve Finnerty joined him that Upper Beaconsfield started to compile runs.
At 5/69, the pair scratched a partnership of 65 to take the score to 6/134 when Williams departed for a whirlwind 88.
Finnerty (20) found 12 runs with Kim Hassall (12) to take the score to 146 with the latter hitting the winning runs.
