Tick for more ‘little boxes’

PLANS are moving ahead for more major new property developments in Pakenham and Officer.
Cardinia Shire Council recently either adopted or agreed to prepare amendments to its planning scheme allowing for two new subdivisions.
The new developments are proposed for land on both sides of the Princes Highway, west of the Pakenham township.
Councillors said both subdivision proposals were for land within the growth area.
Planning scheme amendment C80 will be prepared to allow a 450500 lot housing estate to be built on a 46hectare parcel of land in Thewlis Road.
Council also adopted Amendment C59, which proposes to rezone 80 hectares of land bounded by the Princes Highway, Cardinia Road and the PakenhamDandenong railway line.
The amendment, which is subject to a development agreement that requires payments for infrastructure and the provision of sporting facilities, is for residential development and a public park and recreation area.
Planning Minister Rob Hulls will now be asked to endorse council’s decision.
The Thewlis Road development, opposite the Delfin Lakeside at Pakenham estate is expected to eventually become home for more than 1000 residents, roughly the same population as Gembrook.
Council officers said Thewlis Road would need upgrading to accommodate extra traffic and traffic lights may also be installed.
The request to rezone the land from rural to residential was made on behalf of Central Equity Land Corporation.
A small local activity centre and a primary school are proposed as part of the subdivision.
Another eastwest road connecting the area with Officer is also expected in the future.
