Clyde fails in close defence

CLYDE’S Agrade side had 285 runs to defend against neighbour Cardinia.
After a first wicket partnership of 65, Daniel Waite broke through with two wickets and then Callum O’Hare took the vital wicket of Mark Cooper for 58.
Clyde was back into the match at 3/95 in the 33rd over.
The Bulls batsmen then steadied the match with Troy DaRose compiling runs before Shane Webster took two wickets, Mick McGuinness one and Dave Denton got a run out.
The Cougars took control of the game at 7/179 but the dangerous DaRose was still batting.
Webster continued his long spell of bowling and got the breakthrough required in the 72nd over with the game in the balance at 8/246.
The Bulls batsmen continued to get runs before DaRose was dismissed by Noel O’Brien for 97 with the score 9/276.
The Cardinia tail then wagged hard and brought up the victory with a handful of boundaries, winning by 12 runs in the 78th over.
Webster bowled long spells to finish with 3/113 from 29 overs and Daniel Waite was the other multiple wickettaker with 2/36 from 10 overs.

C GRADE

Clyde resumed its chase of Pakenham’s 199 runs at 0/24 but lost two early wickets.
Veteran Bun O’Hare then tried his luck, scoring to all parts of the ground, with Tom Sinnema (16) providing support.
O’Hare was dismissed for 68 with the score at 5/133.
Steven Houlihan was joined by Ben Ferrari, and together they pushed the total along before Houlihan fell for a wellmade 45.
Ferrari hit the winning run not long after in his innings of 29 before stumps were pulled at 8/211.

F GRADE

Clyde hosted Nyora, sending the visitors in to bat.
Experienced opening bowler Mick Bishop bowled a fiery spell, taking 4/9 from his six overs.
Clyde was in control at 5/19 in the ninth over before exCougar Jimmy Watts made an unbeaten 50 in a partnership that got Nyora back into the game.
Gavin McGuinness then cleaned up the tail, taking 3/18 to dismiss Nyora for 106.
Clyde opener Darren Tanner smashed the bowling around the ground, making 53 retired, including five sixes and five fours.
The Derozario brothers, Duane and Brendan, got the Cougars across the line with 27 and 28 not out respectively before stumps, the final score at 0/121 in the 16th over.

UNDER 17

Clyde, chasing Beaconsfield’s big total of 200, was unable to get the partnerships required and was dismissed in the 29th over for 54.
Clyde then bowled again, the Tigers making 1/60 from their eight overs with James Harmes taking the only wicket.

UNDER 15

Playing Tooradin at Rutter Park, Clyde was shown how valuable it was to bat the overs with Tooradin ending up on 3/162.
Ben Riley, Adam Ballard and Riley Manks took one wicket each as the Cougars struggled with accuracy throughout the morning.
