THE Upper Beaconsfield community is celebrating their village lifestyle with a festival to be held on Saturday 17 February.
Twentyfour years after the devastation of the Ash Wednesday fires, organisers of the day aim to celebrate the strength of the village community now and for the future.
Festival activities, displays and events will be spread throughout the village centre from Charing Cross, up Salisbury Rd to Keith Ewenson Reserve and through the Community Centre, and back along Halford Rd.
The Upper Beaconfield Village Festival will run from 10am to 1pm.
Highlights of the festival will include an art show of works from many local artists; a discovery trail around the places of interest in the village; car and motor bicycle displays; and local businesses and social groups presenting information about their products and services.
During the festival four local bands will provide music from the Charing Cross rotunda and the Keith Ewenson Reserve rotunda.
A member of the village festival organising committee, Maree Cullinan said children would have plenty of things to do, including the option of a passport to help them lead around the Festival with stamps to collect at various activities.
Children’s activities will include abseiling, exploring a maze, riding a humanpowered vehicle, playing minigolf, and just enjoying the toy library and animal nursery.
Staff at a Shire of Cardinia Speak Out tent will seek answers to the questions: What do you like most about living in Upper Beaconsfield? What do you like least living in Upper Beaconsfield? What are your hopes for the future of living in Upper Beaconsfield?
Village residents are being encouraged to participate in this activity, as information collected will assist in the review of the Upper Beaconsfield Township Strategy.
For those in need of sustenance, there will be a sausage sizzle, Devonshire teas and other food available throughout the morning.
State member for Gembrook, Tammy Lobato will open the festival at the Keith Ewenson Reserve at 10am and the annual Upper Beaconsfield Citizen of the Year award will be announced.
Ms Cullinan said: “Come along and share in the activities and join with others and enjoy the atmosphere of being in Upper Beaconsfield.”
