Top teeoff for championships

ANDREW Villinger is the Agrade leader after the first round of Pakenham Golf Club’s annual men’s championships played on Saturday.
A large field hit off and Andrew leads from Mick McManus, Tym Davey and Mason Shadwell.
Leaders in Bgrade are Scott Hooper from Paul Hobson and Neil Mani.
Bob Dowse is the leader in Cgrade from Trevor McQualter and Greg Roberts.
Dgrade sees Mick Conroy the leader from Robert Bigg and Peter Eaton.
The veterans is led by Stan Gilbert from Cliff Pain and David King.
The Ampol Shield (handicap) division is led by Mick Conroy from Trevor McQualter and Scott Hooper and Robert Bigg.
There are still two rounds to be played to decide the winners.

The day competition was won by Mick Conroy with 64 nett, the Agrade winner was Scott Hooper with 66 and Bgrade went to Brian Bateup with 67.
Nearest the pins saw Alan Halleur take out the golf shop second hole with Clint Walker the winner on the Pakenham Subway second hole.
Neil McLatchie was the winner of the Dante’s Woodfired Pizza eighth hole and Rob McCoubrie won the Hungry Jacks 14th with Barry Williams taking out the Pakenham Pizza 16th.
Scott Hooper was the winner on the B.M.R. Autos second shot on the sixth.
The B.M.R. Autos longest drive for Agrade was won by Stojko Kresojevic with Neil McLatchie taking out Bgrade.
Trevor McQualter was the winner of the McIntyre Painting Cgrade longest drive.
Two players had eagles to share the Pinnacle ‘Eagles Nest’ Scott Hooper on the first and Stojko Kresojevic on the ninth.
Greg Roberts and Clint Walker both received a ball for a birdie on the fifth.

The second and third rounds of the championships will be played over the following two weeks.
The Monthly Medal for February will be played in conjunction with the championship round on 17 February.
The Pakenham Plate will be played on 24 February, so there will be a limited field of Saturday players all hitting off with an early shotgun start.

The junior pennant team had another win on Sunday against Drouin 4 1/2 to 2 1/2.
Next week it plays at Moe against Mirboo North.

This was a stroke competition with Stojko Kresojevic coming in with 62 to defeat Bob Morrison with 63.
Keith Massey, Ray Shalders and Denby Coggan had a score of 66, Les Jones, and Cliff Pain 67 and Peter Egbers, Eric Butcher, Tasi Taito and Ben Milnes came in with 68 and these players received a downtheline ball.
Nearest the pin on the second hole went to Rob Morrison, the eighth to Robert L. Edwards and the 14th to Tasi Taito.

Eighty players took part in the morning Stableford competition with Heath Barclay the winner after a countback from Jack Lloyd and Stojko Kresojevic.
All came in with 42 points.
Down the lines went to Eric Butcher, Doug Booth, Kevin Salau, George Coffey and Tasi Taito, all coming in with 40 points, followed by Malcolm Clay, Ray Wilson, Norman Coley, Glen Foote, Peter Diss and Bill Toogood with 39 and Denby Coggan, Robert Morley, Ken Marker and John Moore with 37 points

Fifty ladies began the new golfing season with the first round of the Summer Cup (nine holes) on Thursday, 1 February.
Winner of the front nine was Maria Warburton with 29 nett on a countback and the backnine winner was Judith McDonald with 33 nett.
Putting on the front nine went to Marg Turner with 12 putts (countback) and Val Greene came in with 12 putts to win the back nine.
Nearest the pin on the second hole went to Toni Owen.
Downtheline balls on the front nine were won by Ann Donovan 29, Pat Salau 30 1/2, Toni Owen 31 and Kay Jones 33 1/2.
Back nine downtheline balls were awarded to Jean Hoare, Marg Blake, Marjorie Dean and Shirley Roberts – all coming in with 36 1/2 nett.
Judy Horne won the ball competition with 35 nett.
Next week will be the second round of the Summer Cup.
