ANNE Madigan is the winner of this year’s Betty Forster Memorial Salver.
Madigan was presented with her trophy on the Beaconhills Ladies’ Opening Day on 7 February as the overall winner of the Beaconhills ladies summer competition.
The salver is played for in memory of Betty Forster, who in 1976 offered to conduct the ladies Wednesday competitions over the summer months in order to give the committee a break.
Forster was made a life member in 1989 and continued to run the summer competition until her death in late 1992.
Before a delicious lunch, 13 holes of stableford were played on the Old course.
Scores were outstanding, with Gloria Minehan winning the daily competition with 35 points to runnerup Mary Padman’s 34 points.
Ros Harding and Ann Felgate both achieved nearest the pins.
Tuesday’s par competition saw the club’s treasurer and president leading the field.
Treasurer Rick Harding scored +7, while president Doug Eastick hit +5 and was runnerup on a countback.
Graham Whitaker, Les Ankers, Michael Utting and Les Richards all scored nearest the pins.
On Thursday a guest, Graham Geisler of Trafalgar, won A Grade with 41 points.
Alex McKay Jr was the B Grade winner with 42 points, while Neil Gardner’s 44 points in B Grade was the best score of the day.
Geisler, Steve Mancer, Peter Langdon, Roy Solomon and Les Richards were the nearest the pin winners.
At the end of the second round of the Beaconhills Club Championships, Matthew Buff and Joe Marsiglio are tied on 144 with a sixshot lead from Sean Gray on 150.
David Crowe, Ryan Fuller and Lou Skantzos sit one shot further back from Gray on 151, Brad Crowley and Steve Murray are on 152 and Andrew Conn and Ben Taylor are on 153.
Peter Johnston on 161 is leading B Grade by three shots from Chris Gamble’s 164, Phil Gellie is at 165 and Dominic Pantano and Andrew Sheehan are tied at 166.
Martin Balsarini continues to lead in C Grade with 173, while Charlie Miranda posted an excellent round to move to second place on 176.
Wayne Johnson and Michael Utting are equal third on 183.
The second round was played on the Lakes course and the concurrent competition of the day had three grade winners.
A Grade Joe Marsiglio 70/65, B Grade Peter Johnston 77/63 (countback), and C Grade Charlie Miranda 85/65 (countback).
There was also a competition on the Old course for those not in the championships.
Bob Allison’s 40 points was declared the winning score on a countback.
The ninehole junior competition was won by Luke Whitworth’s nett 30.
Nick Jones handled the galeforce wind well on Sunday, shooting a one over the card 72 for a nett 64.
He said he kept the ball low. The runnerup was decided on a countback on nett 67, with Tony Fry performing the best over the back nine.
