There were approximately 450 export and 370 young cattle penned at Pakenham’s Victorian Livestock Exchange representing a decrease of 200 head week-on-week.
The usual buying group was present and operating in a mostly dearer market.
Quality remained mixed in the young cattle while there was an improvement in the grown run.
Vealers sold slightly easier with quality an issue.
Yearling cattle to the trade sold up to eight cents dearer for most with just the odd sale a little easier.
Light and medium weight feeder steers sold up to 20 cents dearer for better suited lots.
Grown steers sold 10 cents dearer for the better quality offering while the limited selection of bullocks held firm heavy weight grown heifers improved 19 cents.
Heavy weight Friesian manufacturing steers improved by seven cents while the crossbred portion gained 11 cents.
Vealers to butchers sold from 334 cents to 374 cents while yearling trade steers made between 332 cents and 360 cents.
Yearling heifers to the trade sold between 303 cents and 360 cents and light and medium weight feeder steers made from 320 cents to 367 cents.
Grown steers sold from 314 cents to 335 cents, bullocks made between 310 cents and 328 cents, heavy weight grown heifers showing good finish sold between 288 cents and 312 cents, and heavy weight Friesian manufacturing steers made from 255 cents to 275 cents with the crossbred portion from 273 cents to 312 cents.
