The Salvation Army, Pakenham

THE SERVICE began with a reading from Psalm 118; this psalm is a song of thanks to the Lord for His goodness and eternal love. The first and last verses both read: ‘Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.’
During the service Captain Allison Eastley asked for anyone with a testimony to speak. The three people who gave their testimonies spoke of praying and of Gods’ answers to those prayers.
The scripture reading was from the book of Exodus chapters 11 and 12 and the message was a followon from the previous week. God had inflicted 10 plagues on Egypt but before each plague, Moses demanded the Isralites’ release but God had purposefully ‘hardened’ Pharaoh so that he refused the request.
The 10th and final plague kills all the firstborn males in Egypt, but before the plague, Moses instructs the Hebrew people to cover their door posts in the blood of a sacrificed lamb as a sign for God to protect their homes from His killings. This was the Lord’s Passover, and was to be celebrated in future as a festival to the Lord, a lasting ordinance. Praise be to God for His eternal promise.
