Country Club has champions to a tee

JOE Marsiglio is Beaconhills Country Golf Club’s Agrade champion after winning a thrilling playoff against Brad Crowley on Saturday.
The playoff came after Crowley came from five shots back to tie with Marsiglio on 296 at the end of the fourth round.
Marsiglio then won the championship on the first playoff hole his first after many years of fine stroke play.
Eleven shots back going into the final round, it was Andrew Sheehan who posted an excellent 79 off the stick to snatch the Bgrade championship to close runnerup Steve Mancer.
Sheehan finished with a gross 333 and Mancer with 334.
Martin Balsarini and Charlie Miranda continued their close tussle in Cgrade.
Balsarini’s gross 364 over the four rounds just beat Miranda’s 366.

The winner of the concurrent daily competition on the Lakes course was Billy Sheehan (father of Bgrade Champion Andrew) with 89/65.
Par was played on the Old course by the remainder of the field.
Brian Wills won Agrade with +6, Andrew Toon +6 (on a countback) and John Westwood +5.
Alistair Conn won the afternoon junior ninehole competition with a 44/33.

Last week’s fourball winner Barry Mollison backed up on Sunday, 25 February with his first holeinone on the 15th of the Old course.
A visitor from Valley View Golf Club won the Stableford competition of the day with 42 points on a countback to runnerup Ray Clode.
The MF Ahearn Shield was also played this is a Mixed Canadian Foursomes event and Jan Bryant and Eric Wilson scored 66 1/8, with a handicap of 7 7/8.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:MIDWEEK RESULTS

The newly crowned veteran’s champion David Crowe was the star of the midweek competitions.
On Thursday, playing off a handicap of five, he scored 46 points, which is a gross score of 66 or five under the card.
Gus De Hoogd was the Bgrade winner with 43 points.
On Tuesday, Rob Bishop (42 points) and Ross Byrne (44 points) were the A and Bgrade winners.
Nearest the pins were won by Greg Seymour (second hole) Mark Griffin (sixth hole) Norris Burch (11th hole) Mark Griffin (13th hole) and Brad Crowley (15th hole).
The Stableford competition on Wednesday decided the lady qualifier to compete in the Young Australian Foundation event.
The winner and qualifier was Lorraine Baxter with 42 points to runnerup Marg Rice with 41 points.
Lee James and Maureen Hill both won nearest the pins, while Ann Felgate and Lorraine Baxter won A and Bgrade propins respectively.

A field of top professionals will tee off this Friday in the annual Beaconhills proam.
There will be two shotgun starts on the Old course at 8am and 1pm.
After the professional and amateur golfers compete through the day, there will be a free concert on the lawn at Beaconhills by Rick and the Legends.
The public will be welcome just bring a rug or deck chair and enjoy the evening.
The club is licensed, so there is no BYO, but drink and food will be available for purchase.
