STUDENTS from Lakeside Lutheran College in Pakenham have started preparing their entries for the school art competition for 17 March’s Pakenham Show.
This year’s theme for the section is St Patrick’s Day.
The school’s prep to year eight teaching and learning coordinator Dianne Ahern said students from prep to grade four were starting work on their entries and she was expecting to see plenty of green, leprechauns and pots of gold.
“The school’s overarching theme for the year is living in the community,” Mrs Ahern said.
She said the school was getting involved in the school art competition as part this theme.
“It is important for the students to get involved with the community,” Mrs Ahern said.
“We hope to extend this to the students carrying out community work.”
Students in grade five to year eight started work on scrapbooking projects for the show late last year.
“They started on this early as it is fairly timeconsuming,” Mrs Ahern said.
Mrs Ahern said students from the school were encouraged to enter the different children’s sections in the show as well as the school art section.
The Pakenham Show committee is keen for as many schools as possible to enter this year’s school art section and the other children’s categories.
A threemetre by threemetre display area is allocated at the show for each school that enters.
A perpetual trophy is presented to the winning school and first, second and thirdplace awards are presented for individual students’ works of art.
Schools wanting to participate this year need to contact Graeme Vale on 5941 1764 by 9 March to register.
