Top teeoff for trophy

AN excellent 63 nett was enough to give Peter Bethune and Nick Rowe the annual Don Piner Trophy at Drouin Golf Club on Saturday.
They won on a countback from John Piner and Darryl Bryce.
The event was a twoperson Ambrose sponsored by Rob, John and Tony Piner and 51 pairs teed off.
George Shand and Stuart Williams were next on 63 1/4, followed by Phil Thomson and Mark Wootton 64 3/4, Shane and Liam Dwyer 65, D. Jack and A. McIntosh 65, Doug Scott and Clint Hickford 65 1/4, Phil Dignan and John White 65 1/4.
Nearest the pins – second: John Denholm, fifth (pro pin): Shane Dwyer, 14th: Mark Wootton, 17th: Nick Rowe.

In a stroke round, 86 competitors teed off.
Dave Anderson (handicap 14) won Agrade with 66 nett from Peter Devries 71.
George Shand (handicap 16) won Bgrade with 68 from runnerup Ian Dorsie 69.
Garth Quenault (handicap 22) won Cgrade with 69 from Rick Fenby 70.
Nearest the pins – second: Chris Hunt, fifth (pro pin): David Dunne, 14th: Chris Hunt.
Jack Gough holed out for an eagle on the par four eighth hole.
Balls down the line went to 72 on a countback and the CCR was 72.

Colin Moss was the runaway winner of the senior ninehole competition with 24 Stableford points.
Graeme Brenchley and George Connor were next with 21 points each, followed by Charlie Hardy. 19.

Last Tuesday was the Drouin and District Community Bank ProAm and the Drouin women golfers had their competition day on Thursday.
Twentyeight players contested a Stableford event on the Matthew Bennett Course and despite the heat, some good scores were recorded. The CCR was 39 points.
The Agrade winner, with a score of 40 points, was Ann Roberts, who has broken her handicap and is now on 26. Runnerup was Glenda Warren with 38.
Bgrade winner was Ans De Wit with 40 points and the runnerup was Robyn Eacott with 39 points.
Nearest the pin on the fifth was Glenda Warren and on the 19th was Judy Bibby.
The propin was won by Margaret Purcell.
Downtheline balls went to Margaret Murray, 38 points, Sylvia Martin 36 and Betty Johnson with 35 points.
