MINISTER for Veterans Affairs Bruce Billson has provided a $3000 grant towards the proposed Narre Warren North Soldier Settlement Memorial Garden.
Mr Billson said the money could be used to fund a plaque on a large memorial rock to feature in the garden.
He said the garden would connect the modern community with history.
“This is much about recognising the significant link with the military past,” Mr Billson said.
Narre Warren North Soldier Settlement Memorial Gardens committee chairman and Four Oaks Ward councillor Rob Wilson said the large rock in the area proposed for the garden was a start to the project.
“I welcome the $3000 grant announced by the Minister,” he said.
“This will help the community to recognise and honour original settlers who took up soldier settlement properties at Narre Warren North.
Cr Wilson said the area would be landscaped with pathways, and Casey Council had approved design of the garden.
La Trobe MP Jason Wood said he was delighted with the announcement.
“This demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to remembering service personnel and their contribution to the community,” he said.
