LOOK out AFL defenders, Nar Nar Goon’s Brett Dore is coming.
Dore made that statement to AFL recruiting officers at the MCG on Saturday with a powerful display as a key forward for TAC Cup premier Gippsland Power in its 15point win over Dandenong Stingrays.
With Drouin dynamo and bestafield Dale Thomas, Dore took control of the Power’s attack in the first half, creating a strongmarking and mobile target and imposing himself on the game in similar style to Jonathon Brown from the Brisbane Lions.
Such was Dore’s presence that Stingrays coaching staff told players to keep the ball away from him, but to no avail.
Dore was more interested in celebrating the Gippsland team’s first premiership win with his teammates after the game, but admitted that the thought of being drafted had crossed his mind.
“I’d love to go. To win a premiership and then get drafted would be unbelievable,” he said.
“Playing your football on the MCG, well, I couldn’t think of a better thing to do. It was just unreal today and it’s what every player dreams of.”
Power coach Paul Hudson said that up to eight Gippsland players could be added to next year’s AFL player lists after the side’s stellar season.
Dore was among the side’s best players on the biggest stage, in the biggest game of the year and put his hand up to be among those vying for draft selection in November.
