AN UNUSED water bore at Lang Lang is to be opened by South East Water later this month.
South East Water managing director Dennis Cavagna confirmed yesterday the water authority would begin tanking water from the bore directly to customers from midMarch.
The Lang Lang bore is located to the east of Lang Lang township on Western Port Road, near Pioneer Road and the existing water reservoir.
The water authority will be able to provide 99 million litres of groundwater from the bore each year.
Mr Cavagna said he was delighted that the local community and businesses would get some welcome relief from Stage 3 water restrictions.
“Businesses and agricultural customers will be given priority over residents as we expect demand to be met or exceeded by these customers,” Mr Cavagna said.
The water is not suitable for drinking but is a suitable resource for industry, to green sporting fields and recreational areas.
Mr Cavagna said South East Water has worked closely with Cardinia Shire Council, and both parties were happy with the outcome.
Cost of the groundwater will range from $10 to $45 per 1000 litres depending on the volumes of water and the transport and logistics required.
South East Water has invested $100,000 in infrastructure to ensure access for tankers to transport the water to customers in the area.
