IT was demolition day for under17 captain Nick Miles on Saturday taking nine wickets against Officer in Cgrade with a devastating spell of fast bowling.
His tally for the day was 10, as he also took a wicket in under17 against Emerald Black.
A GRADE
Defending 188 runs against the strong Officer batting line up was always going to be tough for Clyde.
The Cougars were unable to get the necessary early breakthrough, so leg spinner Ross Elston was brought into the attack in his first Agrade appearance for the season.
He dismissed both openers in consecutive overs and took a third wicket two overs later all caught in the deep by Sam Blundy.
Officer was looking a little shaky at 3/97.
The Bullants steadied for a while before Elston came to the fore again with another two quick wickets to have the game in the balance at 5/128.
Officer bats Brett Reid and Ben Baxter then built the matchwinning partnership as they pushed the score past the Clyde total.
Renowned partnership breaker Shane Jack then took wickets with consecutive balls to dismiss both batsmen to have the score 7/212.
The Bullants tail wagged and took to the Clyde bowlers compiling a total of 341 before being dismissed.
Elston finished the day with 5/98 from his 16 overs with Jack the other multiple wicket taker with 2/50 from eight overs.
C GRADE
Clyde had 258 on the board to defend at home against Officer.
In what was a sign of things to come Nick Miles took a wicket with the first ball of the day and then took wickets in his fourth and fifth overs as the Bullants fell to 3/18.
Nathan Lillee took a wicket the next over, but from the on it was all Miles.
His display of quick seam bowling was mixed up with some well disguised slower balls that baffled the batsmen.
By tea Miles had taken seven wickets with Officer in strife at 8/95.
After tea he took just three more overs to take the remaining two wickets to finish with the figures of 9/51 from 18 straight overs.
Wicketkeeper Mick Bain accepted three catches, two were taken in slips, two were clean bowled, one lbw and one at midon as Miles claimed the club record for most wickets in an innings.
His bowling helped the Cougars to a 143run victory over Officer in a positive end to the season.
D GRADE
Heading back to Nyora in an attempt to stave off an outright loss the Cougars bats were already three down and not yet past the firstinnings score.
Captain Matt Sinnema was dismissed early for 15 and Clint Tiesler not long after for 23.
Aaron Reiss the formed a partnership with Dave Bush before he was dismissed for 17.
Reiss batted patiently, but rang out of partners with his score on 31 notout as Clyde was short two players.
Being all out for 109 Nyora then needed to make 62 runs to gain outright points.
The Saints openers attacked the bowling and passed the total without loss in the 12th over.
F GRADE
Playing in the first final against Devon Meadows, Clyde won the toss and sent the Panthers in to bat.
Clyde broke the opening partnership with a runout and then two overs later Mick Bishop took a wicket.
Two wickets to Gavin McGuiness (2/20) saw the Panthers at 4/81 after 19 overs.
The Panther bats then took the attack to the Clyde bowlers, but lost five wickets in the last four overs chasing late runs.
Ken Marshall took 2/12 and Simon Marshall 2/16 as the Panthers were all out for 174.
Clyde lost two early wickets before Darren Tanner and Ali Derozario came together for a 74run partnership in just ten overs.
Tanner was dismissed for 48 that included two sixes and seven fours, while Derozario made 49 that included four sixes and four fours.
Simon Marshall then crafted a clever innings of 35 as wickets fell around him.
Clyde looked in some difficulty at 6/134, but a quick 23 from Ken Marshall helped get the Cougars across the line with six overs to spare.
UNDER 17
Having already lost the game against Emerald Black, Clyde was looking to get wickets and maintain some respectability.
Captain Nick Miles was the only wicket taker, bringing his tally for the day to ten (nine in Cgrade) as Emerald made a formidable 1/152 before declaring.
The Cougars had to face 29 overs and did so in a positive fashion, making 3/101.
Matt Venning batted well to top score with 31 not out; Miles chipped in with 24 not out, Darcy Manks 12 and James Denton 11.
UNDER 15
In a crucial match to decide the right to play in the finals, Clyde was chasing 139 set by Devon Meadows.
The cream of the Cougar bats came to the top as Adam Ballard (33 retired), Joel Avard (31 retired), Pat Lawson (30 retired), Nick Sadler (24 not out), Ben Riley (19) and Dylan Hadfield (14) got the Cougars to 3/181.
The win took the Cougars into the finals by percentage.
UNDER 13
Clyde playing KilcundaBass was chasing 97.The Cougars batted well to make 124 with Ethan McLean 32, Kane Avard 27 not out, Chris Basset 12 and Jacob Lovie making his best score for the season with four.
Finn McCunne took his first wicket for the season playing for the opposition.
