There were approximately 90 export and 175 young cattle penned representing a decrease of 970 head week-on-week due to the following holiday at Pakenham’s Victorian Livestock Exchange.
Most of the usual buyers were present but not all operating in a mixed market which was a little cheaper in paces.
Quality was limited to a few pens with secondary and store cattle offered throughout.
Most young steers sold to feeders and re-stockers while butcher demand was firm.
Yearling heifers to the trade eased six cents per kilogram.
A handful of grown steers and bullocks eased a little due to quality.
Vealers to butchers sold from 295 cents to 324 cents, yearling heifers to the trade made mostly between 250 cents and 282cents after reaching a top of 325 cents.
Young steers to feed and restock sold between 275 cents and 336 cents, grown steers and bullocks made from 275 cents to 282 cents.
Heavy weight crossbred manufacturing steers sold from 254 cents to 265 cents.
