BIKERS are pedalling to buy a bus for people with a disability.
A dozen cyclists will ride in the Murray to Moyne relay from Echuca to Port Fairy, a distance of more than 520 kilometres to raise money for Pakenham disability service provider Outlook.
The riders are helping to raise desperately needed funds for Outlook to upgrade its bus fleet.
The team of 12 cyclists and five support crew will join hundreds of other people in the event on 24 and 25 March. They are hoping to raise at least $10,000 to help Outlook buy another bus.
Outlook administration manager Jenny Stone said the organisation was extremely grateful to the riders.
Norstar Steel Recyclers has sponsored the effort, which has also been supported by McMillan MP Russell Broadbent.
Ms Stone said Outlook’s bus fleet was rundown and very expensive to maintain.
In the past 12 months, the notforprofit organisation has spent almost $24,000 on repairs to its nine 12seater buses.
Ms Stone said money raised from the Murray to Moyne ride would go towards buying another bus.
Businesses were most welcome to sponsor the ride, she said.
“We’re hoping to get more support. Anything we can get is most welcome.”
