KIM Dalziel set a new standard for excellence when she won her fourth H.B. Thomas Memorial Trophy at the Pakenham Show on Saturday.
Kim’s crossstitch needlework has become a feature of the art and craft entries and her achievement in again winning the trophy for the most outstanding exhibit in the pavilion section sets a benchmark that will be difficult to match.
Kim won the prestigious award in 2005, almost 20 years after her first win in 1986. She also won it in 1987.
Kim, from Cora Lynn, worked on her beautiful mermaidthemed design for up to eight months before the show.
Proud husband Norm said the walls of their home were covered in Kim’s work.
“She’s a perfectionist,” he said.
Kim did not enter last year because she was busy working on the Cardinia Embroidery Project.
“I don’t just do it for the show, I do it because I enjoy it,” she said.
The H.B. Thomas Memorial Trophy honours the memory of former PakenhamBerwick Gazette proprietor and life member of the Pakenham and District Agricultural Society, Herb Thomas.
It is chosen from the rosette winners of each section in the pavilion.
The award, donated by Robert Gordon Pottery, was presented to Kim by Herb’s grandson Paul Thomas, who is managing director of Star News Group, publisher of the Gazette.
