Straight to the dogs

A HORSEandhounds display down the main straight of Pakenham Racecourse had punters asking who let the dogs out during the Super Jumps meeting on Sunday.
More than 20 dogs burst on to the home stretch under the watchful guidance of mounted controllers, who guide the hounds using an array of musical notes blown through an airhorn. The dogs exhibited amazing restraint, wowing onlookers.
A note blown to communicate with the hounds that a fox had been brought down spread out the pack and attempted to “sniff down” the captured fox.
But, despite their utmost respect for the controller, the funloving hounds could not resist a pat from hands dangling over the track fence.
