Lions’ final roar

PAKENHAM seniors dipped out of the premiership race with a fighting 32point loss to Narre Warren in the preliminary final at the weekend.
Kicking with the aid of a slight breeze, the Lions struggled in the conditions in the first quarter, failing to register a major, but remained only a couple of goals down.
Luke Walker got the first goal half way through the second quarter, but by then the Magpies had kicked away.
The third quarter saw the Lions fight back to get within three goals of the lead before the rain hit hard and Narre Warren steadied to go in to the main break with a handy lead.
A few seconds after the bounce in the last quarter, Narre Warren kicked the first goal to virtually to put the game out of reach of the Lions.
To Pakenham’s credit it fought the game out, but Narre Warren had too much class as it marched into this week’s grand final.
Sunny Wouters played a dominating game, Evan Broadbent gathered many kicks and Cam Hinkley was his usual busy self.
Coach Michael Holland led from the front throughout the game as he has done for the year and Captain Seb Paynter was his usual courageous self.
The Club is encouraging supporters to go to Berwick this Saturday and support the reserves in the grand final.
