Mixed prices on smaller yard

Last week’s Baw Baw Livestock Exchange fat sale on Wednesday contained a few less head with 474 yarded.
Bullock numbers remained steady and sold to stronger demand, heifer numbers dropped by around 60 per cent giving buyers less to bid for which eased prices across this section of the sale.
Steer numbers were slightly down but stronger demand and good quality drove up the top price and this trend carried on into the vealer pens which recorded a good lift in the average.
The week’s yard average rose five cents to 274.8 cents.
Twenty one bullocks made to 272.2 cents, up four cents, and averaged 253.9 cents, up seven cents, 25 heifers topped at 262 cents, back 23 cents, and averaged 237.1 cents, back 12 cents.
Fifty two steers made to 295.6 cents, up nine cents, and averaged 244.9 cents, back seven cents, 370 veal made to 330 cents, firm, and averaged 287.1 cents, up three cents.

Fewer cows were yarded with 238 on offer. The best sale of the week was 233.6 cents, with the average slipping four cents to 201.8 cents.
Management and staff at the Baw Baw Livestock Exchange would like to wish everybody a safe and Happy Christmas.
