Rich harvest from appeal

CALLS for charity food donations have already borne fruit.
Residents have responded wholeheartedly to the call for help from Pakenhambased 4Cs Emergency Food Bank.
Food bank coordinator Jeni Mathieson had said the high cost of fruit and vegetables and a huge increase in the number of clients over the past 12 months meant the charity organisation was struggling to meet demand.
A kindhearted local grower, who did not want his name published, dropped a couple of boxes of freshly picked apples into food bank officials a few hours after reading the story in last week’s Gazette.
Peter and Margaret Seuren, from Cafresco Organics in Kooweerup, donated several boxes of fresh vegetables, including capsicums, onion and sweet corn.
“We saw the story and wanted to help,” Mr Seuren said.
Mrs Mathieson praised the donors’ generosity and said any other businesses or residents with leftover fruit and vegetables from their garden could drop the produce into the food bank in Main Street.
“Anything that’s in season, even if people have a bit leftover from their garden in the back yard,” she said.
“Families look forward to getting the produce, it’s a big thing for us.”
