Cobras strike in flag thriller

CORA Lynn Netball Club’s Agrade team downed premiership favourites Kooweerup by three goals in a thrilling grand final on Saturday.
The Cobras started strongly and surprised Kooweerup by jumping out to a threegoal lead.
Pam Cunningham and Bianca Featherstone defended strongly and forced the Kooweerup goalers to miss some early shots. Bianca Beilby in wing defence also played well in supporting her fellow defenders.
However Kooweerup showed why it was premiership favourites by playing its best 10 minutes of the game and blew Cora Lynn away with seven unanswered goals in a row.
This gave it a sixgoal lead at quarter time and the Cobras were under pressure.
Cora Lynn moved Bianca Featherstone to wing defence and bought Katie Hogan on in goal defence. This new combination worked well as Letetia Ebert and Steph Curran took control of the midcourt and their feeding of the ball to Siobhan Ebert and Monique Helliar in goals was excellent.
Ebert and Helliar in goals responded and got Cora Lynn back into the game with excellent teamwork and shooting and scores were level by halftime.
In the third quarter Cora Lynn got on top and moved ahead by four goals with more excellent play in goals and the forward third.
However some poor passing let Kooweerup back into the game and by threequarter time had levelled the scores again.
The final quarter also went goal for goal, but Cora Lynn turned the ball over a number of times with some poor passing and Kooweerup got in front.
Letetia and Siobhan Ebert lifted the team with their constant encouragement and with Letetia dictating play through the centre, Cora Lynn came back and took the lead with only two minutes to play.
Pam Cunningham, Katie Hogan and Bianca Featherstone then stopped Kooweerup from getting the ball into the goal circle in the last minutes with some amazing defending.
In a fitting ending to a wonderful game, Siobhan Ebert goaled with seconds to go and secured the win for Cora Lynn.
Letetia Ebert was best on court in a superb captain’s game, but was well supported by the whole team.
Scores: Cora Lynn 35 d Kooweerup 32.
