FOR the week ending Monday 12 September, total yarding at the VLE Pakenham was 2082 plus bobby calves.
This number consisted of 1011 cattle on the Monday, 501 on the Tuesday, and 570 at Thursday’s Store Sale.
Top quality supplementary fed yearlings were in shorter supply despite a larger yarding being penned.
Both competition and demand was very strong for these cattle which saw prices remain unchanged, achieving a similar top price of 258.6 cents per kilogram.
Other cattle sold very well also, although plainer quality led to a drop in average prices.
Feedlots and restockers were very keen to secure numbers as the rain fell heavily on the roof.
With a good spring almost guaranteed after some very heavy rain the previous night, a wider range of cattle were purchased to turn out.
Grown steers and heifers continued to sell to solid competition and prices were unchanged compared to the dearer trends of last week.
