UPPER Beaconsfield golfer Scott Laycock is hoping his strong showing in the Victorian Open will be the catalyst for a form spike in 2009.
Laycock finished in equal-second place at Spring Valley Golf Club on Sunday after rounds of 68, 68, 69 and 71.
The affable 38-year-old was delighted to be among the leaders again, having struggled with form and injury over the past two years and relinquishing his Asian tour card.
“I play to get in contention and that’s been the frustrating thing for me – I’ve been finishing 30th every week,” he said after falling two shots shy of winner Ashley Hall.
“I’m not playing poorly, but I’m not playing as well as I can and this week I played better.”
Laycock was left ruing some missed opportunities with the flat stick.
“Everyone’s pretty close in their ability out here, so it was just going to come down to putts and Ashley did that well today,” he said.
“I had a couple of lip-outs, but I was pretty happy tee-to-green.”
Laycock will head to Sanctuary Lakes this week, before returning for the Pakenham Pro-Am on Friday, 13 February.
