AN anonymous donation will give fire-affected residents the right tools to help rebuild their lives.
Shovels, brooms, crowbars, hammers, buckets and rubbish bins are among the items handed over to the Pakenham Red Cross last week.
“It’s a most impressive display,” Pakenham Red Cross member Ran Webster said.
“It was an anonymous donation – the people just wanted them sent up to the burnt part (around Drouin and Labertouche).”
Mr Webster, an Ash Wednesday firefighter survivor, said he had been overwhelmed by the community’s response following the devastating Black Saturday bushfires.
“I was sitting outside Target on Thursday – I had a box collecting money and I started counting it I had $950 in $50 bills,” he said.
“I just can’t believe it.”
