The show went on

BERWICK Show this year went from ‘it may not be on’ three weeks ago because of the devastating fires to one of the best shows ever.
This was a fine effort from a band of people all with a job to do and doing it well.
President Gordon Cumming said during the show president’s dinner that he was strongly supported by vice-president Warwick Glendenning, secretary Mike Vallence, and treasurer Ross Bradbury.
He mentioned others working around the grounds who had led teams of people to make a great show.
But it is impossible to list everyone who contributes in a significant way.
He said Berwick was the oldest show in Victoria and this year had again been tested by bushfires.
“The show came at a time when it was able to take many minds off the problems associated with the devastating fires.
“Nevertheless, our hearts go out to those who live in and come from those burnt areas,” he said.
Berwick Village Chamber of Commerce president Harry Hutchinson said the shopping centre was alive with people on Saturday and said he was pleased that people used the shuttle bus service from the village to the showgrounds.
He said this took pressure off parking around the ground.
The bus transported an estimated 1000 people during the two days.
Show secretary Mike Vallence said the show was great and everyone was happy with the result.
“You can say it was a record show,” he said.
Congratulations to president Gordon Cumming because the presidency year is the pinnacle of a long-term contribution to being involved in running the shows.
This is a big one for Berwick and the City of Casey and congratulations to all concerned.
