Earth moves for Cardinia

CARDINIA Shire residents – like most Melburnians – were rocked by an earthquake which measured 4.6 on the Richter scale.
The quake shook households at 8.55pm on Friday night.
The earthquake’s epicentre was 44km away from Pakenham, north of Korumburra.
In Pakenham, 181 people reported feeling minor shakes.
Shayne Honey, of Pakenham SES, said staff at a Beaconsfield office yesterday (Tuesday) reported damage to their hot water system.
“The office is under water,” he said.
“But we’re not sure if the damage was sustained from the earthquake.”
Pakenham resident Ian Johnston said he went to bed at 8.30pm after a long hard week only to be rudely awoken 25 minutes later.
“Rousing from sleep, I realised the ceiling was squeaking with another louder chattering noise coming from the roof tiles, my bed and side lamp were also shaking so I bolted out of bed for the bedroom doorway calling out to the wife ‘earthquake’,” he said.
“The only reply from my beloved was ‘my chair is rocking’ then it was all over.”
Mr Johnston said the earthquake gave him one hell of a fright, but thankfully no damage was done to his house.
