There’s no bypassing this issue, says MP

EASTERN Victoria MP Edward O’Donohue is pressing the State Government to debate the need for a Kooweerup Bypass.
Mr O’Donohue last week moved a notice of motion in the Legislative Council in a bid to get the house to put the issue on the table.
“It is not good enough that the Government continually refuses to address the issue or to respond to it in a serious and proper manner,” Mr O’Donohue told the Gazette.
“I am hoping we will have the opportunity to debate in the near future.”
Mr O’Donohue moved on 31 March that the house noted: “The increase of traffic through Kooweerup following the December 2007 opening of the Pakenham Bypass; that motorists travelling from Melbourne to Bass Coast, Phillip Island and South Gippsland prefer to travel through Kooweerup; that planning overlays in place to protect proposed bypass routes have compromised land values; and that the increase in traffic is adversely affecting the amenity of the Kooweerup township and increasing the risk of accidents”.
Mr O’Donohue called on Minister for Roads and Ports Tim Pallas to determine a route for the bypass and then remove redundant overlays and to prioritise the construction of the Kooweerup Bypass.
