Licensees get a serve from police

PAKENHAM Police have reminded football clubs of their responsibilities when serving alcohol.
Senior Sergeant Alan McCarthy has warned that those who break liquor licensing rules will be prosecuted.
“It’s important for licensees and clubs to consider the conduct at their premises,” he said.
“At various times incidents occur and licensees are responsible about what their patrons do and what they do when they leave. Any breaches will come to our attention and they run the risk of losing their license.”
As part of the Cardinia Liquor Accord, police have run sessions to offer advice to football and cricket club members and license representatives.
Sen Sgt McCarthy urged licensees to adhere to liquor licensing rules and look after their patrons.
“If they’re having functions, they need to consider safety aspects, the type of people they will be catering for and how the people are going to get home considering the limited public transport in the area,” he said.
“There’s the risk to a licensee of civil action arising out of an incident.”
