Supermarket access

CARDINIA Shire Council may have to resort to compulsory acquisition to obtain land for an access way to a new supermarket in Beaconsfield.
Discussions with the landholder of Central Hotel Beaconsfield broke down following a meeting between the two parties.
The council’s General Manager Planning and Development Phil Walton said: “A meeting was held with the (land) owner of the Beaconsfield Hotel on 30 January regarding access onto the Beaconsfield Emerald Road that resulted in an offer being received in March to sell the land to the council that was well in excess of the valuation of the land.”
“Legal advice had subsequently been received, albeit only earlier in the day that suggested that council should seek the compulsory acquisition of a carriageway easement over the land.”
