POLICE are investigating reports that a woman, who died when her car and a V-Line train collided in Garfield on Friday, drove around boom gates.
The Traralgon-bound train, carrying 45 passengers, pushed the vehicle 150 metres along the rail track before coming to a halt, police said.
The 29-year-old woman from Nar Nar Goon North died at the scene of the crash. One rail commuter received minor injuries.
Brendan Butland, of the Major Collisions Investigations Unit, said police were investigating how the crash occurred.
“It appeared she has possibly driven around the barrier and into the path of the east-bound train,” he said.
Train services were disrupted for about five hours, and police diverted traffic around the scene.
Detective Sergeant Phil Jury, of Pakenham’s Criminal Investigation Unit, said the collision wasn’t suspicious. He is conducting an investigation on behalf of the coroner.
