FOUR Berwick Secondary College students combined to win the All-Schools Road Relay Championships at Jells Park, Wheelers Hill, on Saturday.
Sam Prime, Jessica Prime, Rachel Bullard and Jessy Wills triumphed in the under-16 girls’ age group ahead of teams from Ruyton Girls School and Killester College.
Thirty schools competed in the under-16 girls’ relay.
Sam’s scorching lead-off run of 10 minutes and 40 seconds set Berwick up for its gold medal-winning performance.
Sam only recently returned from the Australian Little Athletics Championships in Adelaide, where she won her third national title.
Rachel and Jessy maintained the lead in the second and third legs respectively before Jessica ran her squad’s second-fastest split to complete the victory.
The quartet completed the 3km course in 47:06 to finish more than two minutes ahead of second-placed Ruyton Girls School.
Berwick Secondary College teacher Scott Antony was ecstatic about the girls’ performance.
“All the girls performed superbly for their school and we are very proud of them,” he said.
