It’s all academic!

By Cassie Maher
PAKENHAM Secondary College students from year seven to nine got a midyear perk recently, when they were given achievement awards for their scholastic efforts.
Usually any praise is sent home to parents in students’ report cards, but this year it was decided that a ceremony where parents could witness their children’s achievements first hand was a better option.
Awards for achievement and effort in different subjects were given to students for their performance in semester one of this year.
“We really wanted to reward the kids who had been consistent performers and to let them see that the teachers really do notice and appreciate their efforts,” said year nine coordinator Kintara Phillips.
Ms Phillips also explained that the awards were not only given to students who performed well academically but to those who showed a great attitude toward their school work and “had a go”.
Trophies and certificates were presented in the 45minute ceremony, with two year nine students receiving Monash University book vouchers for the best results overall.
A second award ceremony will follow at the end of the year for semester two results.
