Doves name legends

DOVETON Football Club awarded six club stalwarts with legend status at its 50th anniversary Hall of Fame celebration function on Saturday night.
Held in the grand ballroom at the Grand International, Dandenong the Doves inducted 55 clubmen and women into its Hall of Fame, including legends Kevin Hall, Bert Batten, Frank Clifford, Steve Henwood, Wes Keenan and Graeme Downe.
Another highlight of the event was the announcement of the Doveton Indigenous Champions Team of the half century. The gala event was attended by 430 people and marked a triumph for organisers, who had worked on the event for several years.
Among the Hall of Fame inductees were several curr-ent players including assist-ant coach Clint Wilson, Brad Downe, Matthew Miller, Justin Hill and Ryan Hendy.
Steve Charles was named as coach of the indigenous side with Leon Egan his captain. Other well known recent players to make the side included Daryl Thomas, Daniel Charles (both still playing with the Doves) Chris and David George, Michael Gardner and Rob Norris.
The Saturday night event was followed by a back-to-Doveton Sunday afternoon session at the Robinson Reserve, with further 50-year celebrations planned for the rest of the season to honour all who have helped make the club what it is today.
