WARWICK Glendenning is the Berwick Show Society president for 2009/10.
Mr Glendenning was elected during the Berwick Show annual meeting and dinner held in the Akoonah Centre on Thursday 11 June.
Senior vice-president is Peter Wenn, and junior vice-president Anne Reynolds.
Nikki Terracall has taken over the secretarial position from Mike Vallence who stood down after three years in the job.
Treasurer is Ross Bradbury.
Mr Glendenning said retiring president Gordon Cumming had given the society 100 per cent during his term for the 2008/09 year.
“He worked sincerely, diligently, tirelessly, and contributed more than would have been reasonably expected.
“This was a wonderful service,” Mr Glendenning said.
He announced seven life memberships for society members, Bill Bickerton, Gwen Keys, Neil Lucas, Dorothy Vallence, Mike Vallence, Karen Chipperfield, and Debbie Akister.
Warwick said life memberships were given to long serving members in recognition of hard work and committed service to the Berwick Show Society.
He said he was honoured to be elected president of the society.
“It is a pleasure to be involved with the Berwick Show Society and to work with so many dedicated volunteers.
“This is the oldest show society in Victoria with 162 years of service to the community.
“I have been involved with the society for 40 years and have its best interests at heart.
“One innovation this year is to have the three schedules combined into one document.
“This will save $4000 and we hope to have this endorsed by the full committee,” he said.
He said the show had a special meaning to he and wife Kay because they met at a Berwick Show.
“Each show is our anniversary,” he said.
