CIVIC leaders have amended a planning permit for a Pakenham broiler farm in a bid to eliminate odours from the site.
A condition restricting the use of the number of sheds on the farm to four has been deleted on the proviso that the owners install cup drippers in each of the sheds, have no more than 165,000 birds and an implementation of an environment management plan.
Cardinia Shire Council councillor George Blenkhorn said the introduction of cup drippers would reduce the dampness of chicken droppings and minimise odour emanating from the farm.
A mediation session at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) between council and the broiler farm’s owners is set for 24 July.
